Xbox will have my brand loyalty forever and I think I'll keep gamepass and xbox live gold for the foreseeable future even though I only game on PC now and i'll be buying the ps5 next to play a ton of games I've missed over the past few years.. Gamepass for PC has it's problems but still provides thousands of hours of great games. And I just have too many friends that are tied into that eco-system that I want to play 3rd party games with it's tough... Don't think I'll ever own an Xbox series console but will still have respect when I'm playing the PS5. Brand hating is just stupid.

Yes, the very basis of the Sega/Nintendo rivalry was the birth of the notion that Nintendo was for the younger kids, but Sega was for those of us who were already older kids when Atari/Space Invaders first started being a thing, for teens and twentysomethings. It really did cause the birth of age-segregation in gaming, but only because video games had now been around _long enough_ to see a semi-generational split, with developers needing to cater to kids as well as young adults, and not just kids/youths. A ratings system would have been inevitable anyway, as Gen Xers got older and demanded developers keep up with our aging. And so they did.

I think the Sony vs MS is mch more insane just cuz of the internet. I gamed in the 90s and had both SNES & Genesis, both had pros & cons.

Interestingly, even though I lived the Sega-Nintendo feud, I never had to really live it. I live in a country where Sega had very limited distribution, therefore, me and everyone around me played Nintendo. So much so, that Nintendo became synonymous with videogame console. To this day, grandparents all around the country refer to my PS5 or whichever console as "a Nintendo".

I remember these rivalries. I grew up with them. I was a Genesis kid. I remember my parents buying me it for Christmas and they rented me 13 games from United Video, which became a Blockbuster store years later. I got in trouble at United Video for hiding the Velcro tags stuck on game boxes for games i wanted to play but my mother wouldn't let me rent more then 2 sometimes. So hiding thise tags in United Video for games I wanted to play worked out at first for awhile because other people would think those games were already rented out and wouldn't ask because they thought it was already rented. But when I would go back to the video store I would retrieve the tags I hid and bring them to the counter and have the games I wanted to play available only to me. LoL! It worked out well until the video store owners, which were 3 daughters and their mother pulled a little sting and blew up my whole operation. I was banned from the video store for awhile. I don't remember how long. I was pretty young at the time, but my mother was still allowed in so she would just rent me random games.....which didn't always work out, but eventually I was allowed back in. I had to apologize to them and swear to never do that again. Yeah! So I was hooked on my Genesis. Damn! LoL!😆 The good old days. M1 Abrams Battletank was 1 game I remember doing that with. 😄

I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, and I didnt care what company made the games, I just loved to play them. My friends were also gamers and whenever there was a new generation of consoles we would make sure that every option was available to our group, it was fantastic.

Whether someone plays Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, or PC may not matter, but we can probably all agree that playing mobile games does not make one a gamer.

I remember when I was 5/6 my friend got a Sega megedrive 2 for Christmas and I got a scale electric because I still had my SNES. I remember him making me so jealous and furious I didn't speak to him for like a whole year. UNTIL the year I got my Nintendo 64!! Now I'm the boss!! I told him I got a 64 for Christmas and he didn't believe me. so after school when our parents would be stood waiting for us I asked my mum if my friend could come over to play on my 64, she said yes but I had to ask my friends mum. so ran over and asked, she said yes. so my friend gets dropped off and I start to show him all my games and blow his tiny mind BUT... every time he asked a go on my 64 I was like sure man, then yank the controller away at the last second, just let me do this bit. I didn't die my thumb slipped. poor bastard. he started crying and ran downstairs to call his mum and have him picked up. as they were driving away I shouted HAVE FUN ON YOUR MEGADRIVE as I waved with a huge grin on my face. He didn't speak to me again until high school XD

The console war is as bad or worse than ever back then. The fact that you refuse to even state your preference is proof to that, I don't believe your line to the contrary one bit. The 90s console war was... Something. But ads for just about every product attacks the leader. Nintendo was very much the leader. When Sony first came out in the video game industry, they attacked Nintendo in much the same way, with a guy in a Crash outfit yelling into a megaphone in Nintendo's parking lot. This kind of advertising isn't as prevalent nowadays but back then, the attack ads were in much more than game commercials. Now the console war isn't being fought by marketing firms, but keyboard warriors. Back to you refusing to announce your preference. Back then if you proclaimed your love for Sega, you'd get "Sega sucks! Nintendo is way better!" Now if you proclaim your love for Sony or Microsoft, you get "you're a terrible person and I wish harm to you and your loved ones!"

The Nintendo vs Sega rivalry...I was Nintendo all the way. I tried Sega and it felt super clunky, the controls felt like there was too much of a delay. When it comes to consoles I'm still Nintendo.

I remember how I brought an ardent Nintendo fan into the _"Dark side"_ ... A friend was playing with me at an arcade and gushing out about Super Mario Bros 3. Then I jokingly said I had something better at home. He went with me and was subjected to and literally blown away by Altered Beast on my, then, newly acquired SEGA Genesis. From then on, he literally *REJECTED* all things Nintendo and went on full SEGA maniac. Did some good to him since both his Genesis and Master System collection have some very heavily coveted and priced things in it. (For instance, he actually has a pristine copy of Crusader of Centy FFS).

didn't know there was a console war going on in the 90s. I just played games with friends on different systems and had fun. but I really noticed console wars going on starting some where in the middle of the 360 and the PS3 gen until now with sony fangirls being super toxic and spending more time trolling any xbox article they could find rather than playing their "superior" system. I stopped using IGN for that very reason.

I'm that chad of man that I didn't join any of the rivalries... I mean why should I? getting to experience each consoles from the handhelds up to the real deal is great, but one of the best thing I've done was swapping the DS4 thumbstick with a Xbox one thumbstick. The grip is more effective and I only did that because my DS4 thumbstick broke and the only available replacement thumbstick were the Xbox one

There was a time in my country where owning a Nintendo meant you are either super rich, or a dumbass. If you are given $10 a month for allowance, you are already very lucky. Buying one cartridge means you have to wait 5+ months, while pirated Playstation and PC games cost less than $5 each, and got even cheaper as the year went by.

@gameranx How can you make this video without mentioning The Mad Bartender of Ultima Online? They spent years cultivating relationships with the other players in a UO roleplay server just to murder every single one of them when the time was right. On a permadeath server, no less. It's just such an amazing story that I think it deserves more attention. Unless you've already done this story elsewhere, that is.
